For the Love of Metal
While I like a lot of types of music and can listen to almost anything, (except rap/hip hop and old school country), my favorite is heavy metal. There are many sub genres. I’ll share some of my favorites here.

Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States.With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats and loudness.
Heavy metal can be traced back to about 1968 when the “big 3” (at least in my opinion). Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath started then and really changed everything for me.
Progressive Metal
Dream Theater
Pretty much the “big guys” in modern progressive metal.

A somewhat lesser known prog band from Los Angeles. They do some very deep sometimes dark songs.

Progressive/power metal from Norway. Incredible vocalist.

Melodic Death Metal
Mors Principium Est
Incredible guitar playing from Andy Gillion. Sadly he is no longer in the band. They put out some fantastic melodic death metal before and during his time there like: Destroyer of All
Kalmah
The self described “Swamplords” of Finland, they do some very musical, melodic metal. One of my faves is: Heritance of Berija
Scar Symmetry
Swedish prog death metal led by guitar hero Per Nilsson. Two of my favorites are: Limits to Infinity and The Illusionist
Be'lakor
From Australia, they play a very agressive but still melodic metal. Listen: Roots to Sever
The Halo Effect
A rather new “supergroup” from Gothenburg Sweden. Become Surrender
Power Metal
Blind Guardian
A power/speed metal band highly influenced by fantasy writings. The singer has an incredible voice.

Sonata Arctica
A Finnish band that has some symphonic influences. The Cage is a bit out there but very musical.
Hammerfall
From Gothenburg, Sweden comes Hammerfall playing a European style of power metal. Bloodbound is a real rocker.

A very elegant metal band of five lovely ladies. All are very talented.
